Economist says Iowa’s in a recession

October 1, 2001 By admin

Creighton University economist Ernie Goss says his “Mid-America” economic survey this month is one of the weakest he’s seen in seven years. Goss says he’s ready now to use the “R” word. That’s “recession,” because he thinks the regional economy’s in a recession right now. Imports were down fairly dramatically, probably pushed down by the terrorist attacks, and the outlook’s bad for the region. But Goss says consumer confidence was sinking in August and September only continued the trend.
