Drake needs new motivation for matchup with Dayton

October 19, 2001 By admin

The Drake-Dayton matchup normally is for the Pioneer Football League championship but this season is an exception. A 17-7 loss at Valparaiso last week knocked the Bulldogs out of contention for the North Division title and coach Rob Ash’s team will now try to play the role of spoiler against the unbeaten Flyers. He says they’re trying to find a way to motivate the players with the conference title shot gone, but he doesn’t think it’ll be a problem. Ash says while the championship is not on the line, the rivalry remains. Ash says one of the keys’s will be slowing down Dayton’s explosive option attack.
