Oskaloosa police capture man wanted in anhydrous theft

October 23, 2001 By admin

Police in Oskaloosa have captured a man who allegedly tried to run down Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies at a stakeout.
Police say 36-year-old Jeff James Gable was seen stealing anhydrous ammonia from a storage facility near Batavia. Officers say Gabel tried to run down deputies as they tried to arrest him. Deputies fired shots at the man as he fled. Gabel is charged with first-degree robbery, tampering with anhydrous ammonia, interference with official acts and fifth-degree theft.
