November 12, 2001 By admin

The semifinal round of the high school football playoffs conclude today with two rematches from last season in class 3A. In the opener second-ranked Clear Lake plays ninth-ranked Western Dubuque. Clear Lake coach Fred Wieck says his defense has improved throughout the season.Wieck says Western Dubuque has tremendous size that will make them tough to handle. In the second game, Top ranked Grinnell battles fourth ranked Harlan. Last season Harlan claimed a four-overtime thriller and Grinnell will be looking to avenge that loss.Grinnell coach Jim Dunne says this is a different Harlan team that isn’t as big as past teams, but still fundamentally sound.Harlan coach Curt Bladt looks for another good matchup. He says it’ll be a fine football game that will be played hard, but with good sportsmanship.Bladt says this Grinnell team is different from last season, as they run the ball more.
