President sends U-of-I letter of support after Old Capitol fire

November 21, 2001 By admin

President Bush has sent a letter to the President of the University of Iowa. The one-page letter was sent in response to the fire that heavily-damaged the “Old Capitol” in the middle of the University of Iowa campus. Bush said the fire must have “caused pain to everyone who has called the University of Iowa home” — but he says he was pleased to learn no one was injured and that restoration efforts are already underway. He called the Dome “a beautiful and historic symbol for all Iowans” and noted some members of his administration are Iowa grads.
