Kari Engholm, the Perry woman accused of neglect and manslaughter for the death of her seven-month-old girl, is on trial today. Engholm left her child all day in a hot mini-van. The prosecutor is saying Engholm let her own thoughts of a busy day get in the way of her duty to take care of her child. Engholm’s attorney is arguing his client shouldn’t be convicted for what was essentially a tragic accident. Lawyer Ronald Wheeler questioned Perry police detective Eric Vaughan this morning. Vaughan said he found that Engholm had forgotten her child.Engholm is the C-E-O of the Dallas County Hospital in Perry.
