Aide to Harkin talks about farm bill

December 18, 2001 By admin

An aide to Iowa Senator Tom Harkin says the new farm bill before the Senate contains subsidies that make up a “safety net” for producers. He says it provides them with a profit, and produces cheap food for citizens, who spend barely a dime of our dollar on food, cheapest anywhere. Harkin aide Bob Soukup says the new farm bill could be passed this week in Washington. Meanwhile, Soukup says the senator’s still urging residents to use alternate means to contact his office with comments or questions. He’s encouraging people to email or phone, because mail’s taking a much longer time. Soukup will be in DeWitt this morning from 11 until noon, meeting with residents at the Dewitt Community Center on the new farm bill.
