Legislators anxiously await Governor’s budget

Governor Tom Vilsack releases his plan for next year’s state budget at 11 o’clock this morning. Republican legislators like House Majority Leader Christopher Rants of Sioux City say they’re eagerly waiting for the details. Rants says he hopes the governor has used the extra time to take into account some of the concerns of the legislators.Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows says he doesn’t want to see a lot of “cost shifting” in the budget.Republican legislators say they will oppose any effort to raid special state accounts, like the road construction fund, for other purposes.
