Experts in seed technology from around the globe are gathering in Ames this week to discuss the status of genetically modified organisms, or G-M-O’s. Event organizers say it will bring together agricultural officials from many other countries to talk about how they import G-M-O seed and grain.Dan Curry is manager of the Seed Testing Lab at Iowa State University. The 24th annual Seed Technology Conference will be held tomorrow, but there are workshops at I-S-U both today and Wednesday. Curry says today’s all-day workshop will focus on how to spot G-M-O in seed and grain.The Tuesday conference will focus on biotechnology, StarLink, the new Farm Bill and barriers to the G-M-O seed movement. While a few negative incidents with G-M-O products brought much publicity in recent years, Curry says the industry continues to grow and thrive.About 200 attendees are expected.
