Iowa doesn’t have a problem with a vaccine shortage causing headaches nationwide.Doctors in many states report they have to wait longer and take smaller shipments of the M-M-R vaccine, a routine childhood inoculation for measles, mumps and rubella. Some pediatricians even say they worry about young patients who’ll have to wait to get their “baby shots.” The one pharmaceutical company that makes the vaccine says it’s had production problems since last summer. But the Iowa public health department’s Kevin Teale says his staff started checking around after news of the shortage came out, and Iowa doctors tell the agency they don’t have a problem, and can get all the vaccine they need.
