The deadline is Thursday for Iowa small business owners to register for next month’s All-Iowa Home-Based Business Conference. Organizers say it’s a great place to learn about starting a business in your home, to market your current business and to network with other entrepreneurs.Cheryl Eftink runs the office of the U-S Small Business Administration in Des Moines, which is hosting the conference on March 9th. She says there are more than 136-thousand home-based businesses in Iowa — that’s about 60-percent of all businesses in the state. Eftink explains why there are so many in the state, and why they continue to grow in number and thrive.Eftink says some of Iowa’s biggest success stories, like Vermeer Manufacturing and the Pella Corporation, started in homes, garages and shops.
