A “Marriage Matters” celebration was held at the statehouse today, honoring couples who have stayed together. Iowa Family Policy Center director Chuck Hurley handed out certificates of recognition to dozens of couples who’d gathered for the event. He says they’re not trying to denigrate those who aren’t married for life, but to lift up those who do.Lyle and Letha Armstrong of Atlantic have been married 68 years. After six children, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, Letha has some advice, marry someone you love more than yourself, you can’t always have your own way, and you have to smile a lot. Members of the “Marriage Matters” organization are asking legislators to pass a bill that requires counseling for engaged couples.
