Amidst new allegations of widespread abuse of federal funds by government workers, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is scheduled to testify Wednesday before a house panel. Grassley will discuss the Defense Department’s misuse of government-issue credit cards.Grassley testified about the problem last summer before the House Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Efficiency, Financial Management and Intergovernmental Relations. A review found Pentagon employees spent nine billion dollars in 2000 with 1-point-8 million credit cards. Grassley says some spending clearly appeared to be personal and inappropriate. He says the Pentagon’s issuing credit cards willy-nilly with no credit checks and it’s no surprise what’s resulted.
