The Iowa Chapter of the Sierra Club is running ads on the radio, urgingIowans to ask legislators to pass tougher standards for livestockoperations. The Sierra Club’s Erin Jordahl says the Sierra Club hopeslawmakers pass a limit on the amount of phosphorus in the manure that may beapplied to crop land. The group also wants new standards that offer moreprotection to waterways and acquifers, as well as communities and touristattracts. Jordahl says communities need to have a voice in deciding whereconfined animal feeding operations are placed.
