Bulldogs look to move on to "Elite 8"

March 22, 2002 By admin

The Drake Bulldogs will play South Carolina tomorrow in Raleigh, North Carolina in the semifinal round of the women’s N-C-A-A east region. The Bulldogs advanced to the sweet-16 with an upset win at Baylor last weekend. In that game, the Bulldogs shut down Baylor’s quickness. Coach Lisa Stone says in this game they will battle South Carolina’s size advantage.Stone says despite being outsized the Bulldogs are still going inside to junior center Carla Bennett.Senior point guard Stephanie Schmitz says the Bulldogs have gotten to this point by converting on big possessions.Schmitz says while the game plan is important the most crucial element is carrying it out.Bennett says the Bulldogs need to keep approaching the games as the underdog, even though people now are paying attention after they advanced.
