Anhydrous leak causes evacuation in Pacific Junction

April 12, 2002 By admin

A large portion of the western Iowa town of Pacific Junction was evacuated Thursday following an anhydrous leak. Mills County Sheriff’s Deputy Denise Jens says it began about 3-30 Thursday and forced evacuation of the southern part of Pacific Junction plus the industrial area. She says she was told a hose came loose from an anhydrous tank and there was a large cloud as deputies responded. Deputy Jens says rescue squads came from both Glenwood and Pacific Junction fire departments. The cloud blew off southeast on the wind and dissipated, and fire crews shut off the valve on the tank. At least one co-op worker was taken to a local hospital, overcome by the anhydrous fumes.
