Cal Eldred lights up his former team

April 12, 2002 By admin

The Iowa baseball program will dedicate the new lights at Duane Banks Field during Saturday’s Big Ten doubleheader with Ohio State. Former Iowa standout and major league pitcher Cal Eldred and his wife made a gift of 245-thousand dollars to fund the installation. Iowa coach Scott Broghamer says in between games they’ll officially recognize Cal and his wife Christie. The series begins with a single game tonight.Broghamer says the event has added meaning because he was Eldred’s high school baseball coach at Urbana High School. Broghamer remembers hearing about Eldred at that time in 1979 when Eldred was still in elementary school.
