You might be a poet and not even know it

May 10, 2002 By admin

Can you recite any song lyrics? A sonnet you learned in school? Without realizing it, you may be a fan of poetry. Enthusiasts of the verse are gathered in central Iowa for the Des Moines National Poetry Festival. LuAnne O’Shea is manager of the free three-day fest. She says it’s the only event in the country supported by a community, and not a college.O’Shea says the event is drawing poets and poetry lovers from across the state and across the country.O’Shea says poetry touches us all every day, be it in the workplace, at home or in our cars. She says this 12th annual festival is a way to celebrate contemporary poets and won’t be hard to listen to.Tonight’s events are at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines from 7:30 to 10, while tomorrow’s events are at the Des Moines Art Center from 9 to 4. All events are free.
