Spirit Lake rocked by the death of another child

May 18, 2002 By admin

In the same town that was rocked by the beating death of Shelby Duis two years ago, authorities are looking into the fate of another young girl. Four-and-a-half-month-old Shania Laird died Thursday in the northwest Iowa town of Spirit Lake. Police say the death is “suspicious.” No arrests have been made. An autopsy was performed Friday but the results may not be made public until Monday. The child’s parents are reportedly: 36-year-old Lori Mason and 37-year-old John Laird. The house is three blocks from the house where Shelby Duis was killed in January of 2000.
