Eighty-two extra state troopers are on the roadways in Iowa with all the holiday travelers today. Iowa State Patrol spokesman Robert Hansen says they’ll be spread out across the state.The troopers will be looking for speeding and other violations, like failure to wear a seatbelt. Hansen encourages you to not let summer fun end up with a tragedy on the highway.He says if you plan to drink, designate a driver who isn’t drinking to get you home safely. The extra troopers are paid through a federal program.
