New leader emerges in 4A RI/Coaches baseball poll

June 17, 2002 By admin

There’s another new top-ranked team among the large schools in this week’s Radio Iowa/Coaches Association high school baseball poll. The top perch in class 4A has been slippery this season and that continued as last week’s number one, Des Moines Lincoln, lost its first game of the season and fell to number five. Council Bluffs Lewis Central moves into the top spot, Marshalltown is up to second from fourth, Dubuque Wahlert and West Des Moines Valley round out the top five. The three other top-rated teams stayed the same. Cedar Rapids Xavier and Oelwein hang onto the one and two spots in class 3A. They’re followed by Dallas-Center Grimes, Davenport Assumption and Knoxville. Emmetsburg continues in the top spot in 2A. Albia moves up a notch to second, and then it’s Wilton, Cascade and Dyersville-Beckman round out the top five. The top team in class 1A is Mason City Newman once again, followed by East Buchanan, Lansing Kee, West Harrison and Martindale-St. Mary’s. For a complete list of the top ten in each class chekc the link on this page.
