The U-S House last night unanimously approved a resolution to establish an official flag honoring service members who’ve earned the Medal of Honor, a flag designed by an Iowa vet. Congressman Tom Latham sponsored the resolution he calls a tremendous tribute to veterans.Twenty-year veteran Bill Kendall says he was moved to create the flag in honor of a war hero from his hometown of Jefferson. Kendall design is the same shape as the cloth pendant that holds the Medal of Honor. It has 13 stars on a blue flag and above the stars are the words “medal of honor.” He says Medal-of-Honor recipients deserve more recognition. Kendall says if the official flag makes its way successfully through Congress he thinks ownership of the flags should be limited to medal holders themselves and the communities they live in. Then he says hometowns should fly it at times like Memorial Day. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for “valor in action against an enemy force” that can be bestowed upon someone serving in the armed forces.
