Marycrest to go away for good

June 26, 2002 By admin

An eastern Iowa college is about to vanish. Marycrest International University officially ends its six-decade existence in Davenport this weekend. They’ll turn out the lights this Saturday. Marycrest’s board of directors announced in December the school was closing its doors for financial reasons. The final graduation took place in May. Hundreds of bargain hunters, including former students and staff members, bought some Marycrest memories last Saturday at an auction held at the school. School officials say office furnishings and school equipment will be auctioned off in the future. Whoever ultimately buys the 22-acre property will inherit what doesn’t sell.
