Pella dedicates windmill

July 4, 2002 By admin

A new fixture in Pella has sparked a revival of the Fourth of July celebration. Pella is officially dedicating its new 1850 Dutch grain grinding windmill. Pella Historical Society president Patsy Sadler says it’s the tallest working windmill in the United States. They’ve had it open for tours since the 10th of June. She says the mill has been a big hit in the Dutch village. The mill dedication is a kickoff to today’s 4th of July events — something Sadler says has been missing for decades as they haven’t really had an major 4th of July activities since the Bicentennial.
