The U-S Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the cities of Des Moines and Clinton 100-thousand dollar grants to clean up contaminated areas. E-P-A spokesperson Shawntell Martin says the money is for what’s called “pilot projects.” She says the projects identify and clean up leaking underground oil or gas storage tanks. She says the two Iowa sites are part of a nationwide problem.Martin says they hope to reclaim the land and put it back to good use.Martin says city officials in Des Moines and Clinton will use the money to accomplish the goals of the program.
