While thousands of hot rod lovers are revved up for this weekend’s “Good Guys” car show in Des Moines, another smaller show is going on at the same time in the same place. John Sievers organizes the model and pedal car competition at the custom car show. He says they have several different classes in the show. Sievers says some of the pedal cars, which date back 80 years, are worth well over ten thousand dollars. The metal cars were once playthings for children, but he says they’re now big-dollar collector’s items. He says they’re cars from the 1910s to the 1970s.Much like the pedal cars, Sievers says the plastic car models are far from playthings. He says they’ve got great detail and look like the real thing. The show is at the Iowa State Fairgrounds today and tomorrow. The Good Guys show also features -real- cars, about three thousand of them, all dating from before 1965 — hot rods, customs, classics, street rods and muscle cars.
