The Iowa Supreme Court has upheld the firing of two workers at the Woodward Resource Center, which cares for mentally retarded and disabled children and adults. Cathy Nordyke was dismissed from her job after her second drunk driving conviction landed her in prison for 90 days. Craig DeHoet was dismissed when a criminal check found he’d been convicted of assaulting his wife, and a domestic abuse charge was pending over an incident with his girlfriend at the time. The union representing the two workers appealed, and an arbitrator eventually ruled the two should be put back on the job. The Iowa Supreme Court, however, has upheld their dismissals.
