Assumption and Oelwein win at state tourney

In the night’s first 3-A contest, Davenport Assumption beat Harlan, 11-to-six. Harlan jumped out to a three-zero lead in the first.Assumption scored three in the top of third to tie it up. Then, Assumption scored one in the fourth, three in the fifth and three more in the sixth. The Knights were led by number nine hitter Brandon Steinbrecker who had two doubles, a sacrifice fly and drove in a run — igniting two, three-run innings. In the final 3-A game of the day, Oelwein beat M-O-C/Floyd Valley eight-to-five — in nine innings.
