Eagle Grove, Marshalltown not runner-ups this year, both win titles

Two state titles were decided in Marshalltown Saturday.Eagle Grove won the Class 2-A title 4-0 over Dyersville Beckman. Eagle Grove was runner-up last year. Eagle Grove’s Brett Jensen struck out nine, walked no one and allowed just three hits. Marshalltown won the Class 4-A championship game, after being runner-up for the past two years. High school home run title holder Jeff Clement didn’t hit a homer in the game. Clement was on the mound Saturday, and gave up six runs to Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the top of the third inning, but Marshalltown’s batters clawed back to post a nine-to-six victory over Kennedy.
