Clear Lake looks to get back to championship

The Clear Lake Lions make their fourth appearance in six seasons in the other 2A tournament quarterfinal tonight. The Lions were runners-up in 1997 and 1999, and this year look to get back into the finals riding a five-game winning streak, which includes knocking off three ranked teams in district and regional play. Clear Lake coach Josh Byrnes says the team is enthusiastic about getting back to the state tournament.Byrnes says junior Megan Keefe brings a dual threat for his team with a .370 batting average and a 23-8 record with a point-8-2 E-R-A into the tournament.Byrnes says the Lions match-up fairly evenly with first round opponent Red Oak. Clear Lake comes in with a record of 28-12, while Red Oak is 35-12.
