The “Information Super-Highway” has become a key tool for informing Iowans about the state’s largest road construction project. The Department of Transportation’s created a website dedicated solely to the I-235 construction project in metro Des Moines. D-O-T spokesperson Kathy Robinson says the latest addition to that site is a “webcam” that shows the progress of the construction on the 28th Street bridge. The camera takes a picture every 20 minutes, and the pictures are then put together for a continuous video of the old bridge coming down and the new bridge going up. Robinson says this is the first time they’ve used such a webcam. She says they’ve had two to three hundred people a day call up the webcam at i235.com since it’s been up. Robinson says the video from the webcam will be helpful as a teaching tool.Robinson says they’ll evaluate the use of the webcam after the project is completed to see if they’ll use it again on future projects.
