1A Softball champs: Woodbury Central

August 3, 2002 By admin

Woodbury Central beat Edgewood-Colesburg one-to-zero to win the Class 1-A championship. The Wildcats have seven sophomores and three freshmen in the starting line-up, without a junior or senior on the roster. Woodbury Central coach Bryan Alfredson says the team is led by pitcher Whitney McElrath, who struck out 12 Ed-Co batters. Alfredson says it’s not a shoo-in that his young team will be the immediate favorite for next year’s title chase. Alfredson says he’ll try to keep the team motivated during the next school year in hopes of making another title run.•
