Democrat Governor Tom Vilsack’s calling on his Republican opponent, Doug Gross, to release details of his tax cut plan. Vilsack contends that Gross’ promise of “targeted” tax cuts for industry will deplete scarce state resources and prompt cuts in programs like Medicaid, which Gross has already said should be pared down.Vilsack says Gross has been talking about making “targeted” tax cuts for months, and it’s time for Gross to reveal which industries will benefit. Vilsack says there’s a “correlation” between targeted tax cuts and the “privileged few” who will benefit, at the expense of others who will pay because state services will be cut. Gross campaign spokesman Eric Woolson says Gross will outline his tax cut plan in the fall.Woolson says “somebody in the Governor’s office hit the panic button today”…and “pushed the Governor out in front of the media to try to baffle” folks with a “bunch of baloney.” Woolson says Vilsack’s trying to divert attention from his own record.
