Tornadoes rain hit Iowa

August 22, 2002 By admin

While heavy rain dumped on parts of northern Iowa this morning, eastern Iowa flirted with at least two tornadoes last night. A tornado from the southwest dipped down about 6:30. In the minute or so it was on the ground, it damaged a house and destroyed a garage on the Ben Ward farm about three miles north of Muscatine. It also destroyed a machine shed full of equipment on a farm owned by Ward’s neighbor, Dennis Hetzler. Another funnel cloud was spotted near Montpelier in Muscatine County. Moments later it skirted north of the Scott County community of Blue Grass and continued heading northeast, missing Davenport. No injuries were reported. A tornado hit part of Blue Grass in June of 2001, causing extensive damage.
