The town of Battle Creek’s been evacuated after an explosion and fire at an Ida County propane company. Wanda Harrell is a secretary in the superintendent’s office at the Battle Creek – Ida Grove Community School district. She says the explosion was at a business called Johnson Propane, the town’s evacuated and the middle school’s in that town so all junior high students were bused over to the high school, in Ida Grove. Kids from all the schools were bused home if they lived in Ida Grove, kept at the school if they lived in Battle Creek while their parents picked them up and decided where to go from there. Harrell says no students were involved in the blast, and details were sketchy at first. She says they called for ambulances and for Life Flight. The town of Battle Creek has about 800 people and authorities swung into action to evacuate them all since the explosion happened at a propane business in town. There are some large holding tanks there, and nobody knew yet how it started or what exploded, and fire departments were called in from Arthur, Holstein, Battle Creek and Ida Grove. The Johnson Propane Company’s located on highway 175 in Battle Creek.
