Iowa Homeland Security Advisor says there’s no known threat to Iowa

September 10, 2002 By admin

Federal officials now say there’s a “high risk” of terrorist attack tomorrow, mostly at United States interests overseas. Iowa “Homeland Security” Advisor Ellen Gordon was on a conference call last night with Tom Ridge, the national Homeland Security director, and she says there’s no threat specific to Iowa. Gordon says things have certainly changed in the past year, and we’ve come a long way in improving our ability to prevent terrorist attacks. She says we’re also stronger in our ability to respond to attacks. Gordon says the work she and other security officials have undertaken in the past 12 months has been overwhelming at times.Gordon says there are still some things to resolve, particularly how to warn the law enforcement community, as well as the public, about potential threats. She says they’re still working on a way to educate the public about what threats are all about.
