Autumn arrived earlier this week, as did the state’s newest effort to lure in leaf-watchers. The Iowa Tourism Office and the D-N-R are teaming up to offer a fall foliage hotline and a webpage where those who crave the colors of Iowa autumn can find out when and where. State Tourism director Nancy Landess says many travelers hit the road just to see the leaves while others plan their weekend activities around making a drive during autumn. Thanks to the relatively dry summer, Landess says the trees in Iowa should be ripe for a spectacular color show this season. Landess says tourism is a four-point-two billion-dollar industry to Iowa and fall colors are one of the year’s last big callings. The hotline at 515-233-4110 will be updated every Monday though early November, as will “www.traveliowa.com”. Just click on the red-orange leaf.
