A Fairfield woman has a survival story to tell after an accident Monday in Mahaska County. The Iowa State Patrol says 43-year-old Laura Stanley went off a curve on a road near Fremont about 8:30 Monday morning. The car flipped upside down between two trees and was concealed by the tree branches. Stanley was trapped for over five hours before D-O-T workers found her. The State Patrol says Stanley was wearing a seatbelt which saved her life. She was taken to the Mahaska County Hospital and later transferred to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with two broken ankles, a broken wrist and other injuries. Stanley is listed in serious condition.
