Iowa’s getting a grant worth more than five-and-a-half million dollars from the U-S Department of Justice. Senator Chuck Grassley says most of the money will go toward bolstering Iowa’s Department of Public Defense. The money will help buy emergency response equipment and will pay for costs related to planning, conducting and evaluating weapons of mass destruction exercises. Grassley says “Homeland security must be a top focus of all us. This funding will help ensure first responders in Iowa are adequately equipped to respond to whatever threat may arise.”
