A Mason City man has been arrested on first-degree kidnapping charges and if convicted could face life in prison. Mason City police say they received a complaint from a 49-year-old woman that a person known to her had broken into her home, held her at gunpoint, and sexually assaulted her. 39-year-old Rick Len Carlson allegedly entered the victim’s house on Wednesday and waited for her to return home. When the victim returned at about 8:30 PM, he displayed a handgun and demanded they have sex. At about 5 AM, the victim was able to escape, went to a relative’s house, and then to the police station. Carlson was arrested shortly before 11 o’clock yesterday morning in the 14-hundred block of North Pennsylvania. Carlson has been charged with first-degree kidnapping and taken to the Cerro Gordo County jail where he is being held on $250-thousand bond. First-degree kidnapping is a “Class A” felony which carries a mandatory life sentence.
