New program encourages Iowans to shape up

A program sponsored by the Iowa Games will encourage Iowans to shape up and get more active. “Lighten Up Iowa” is a five-month program that will attempt, as spokeswoman Lynn Allen says, to change the shape of the state. She says the state of Iowa ranks 14th nationally for people who’re obese. Allen says Iowans are encouraged to join teams of up to ten people and then record their weight or mileage throughout the program.It’s a five month program that encourages people to change their lifestyle. Allen says the program will be offered statewide beginning in January. She says the successfull pilot program last year involving 140 teams saw them lose over three tons of weight.
