K-Mart is closing over 300 more stores in 44 states, including one in Iowa. K-Mart will close only one of its stores in Iowa, a store in Waterloo on Crossroads Boulevard. The financially-troubled retailer announced yesterday it would close 326 stores and pare up to 35-thousand jobs as part of a cost-cutting plan to emerge from bankruptcy in April. Last year,K-Mart shut down 283 stores and laid off 22-thousand. Company officials say the stores that are being closed had unprofitable leases, were losing money or were too close to competitor like Wal-Mart or Target. A Wal-Mart is near the K-Mart in Waterloo that’s targeted for closure.
