Drake looks ahead with new point

January 17, 2003 By admin

With their point guard out for the rest of the season the Drake womens basketball team needed someone to step forward and Mandy Kappel did just that. Kappel poured in a career high 18-points, including a trio of three pointers as the Bulldogs downed Evansville 70-55 Thursday night in DesMoines, handing the Aces their first Missouri Valley loss.Carla Bennett had 18-points for Drake and Kappel says that opened up the perimeter shooting.Drake coach Lisa Stone got the emotional effort she was looking for as she says all of her players stepped up and says it’s probably the first time this year they’ve had four players in double figures.
