State Senator and Gulf vet wants more security at home

February 4, 2003 By admin

A state Senator who served in the Persian Gulf War is calling on Congress to beef up homeland security before going to war with Iraq again. Senator Steve Warnstadt, a Democrat from Sioux City, says Congress has failed to pass a three-and-a-half billion dollar spending plan that would help train fire fighters and medical professionals who’d respond to a terrorist attack, Warnstadt, a major in the Iowa National Guard, says as an intelligence officer he knows a war with Iraq means a terrorist attack here is more likely.Warnstadt is urging Iowans to call or write their Congressman and urge action on the issue.
