Schools are facing a significant jump in transportation costs. It’s costing a lot more to make the wheels on the bus go ’round these days. Schoolbuses run on diesel fuel, and the price of diesel has increased 14-cents a gallon, to a dollar-71, in the past two months. It was a dollar-51 in January. Diesel was 52-cents cheaper just a year ago. School officials struggling to make ends meet are considering canceling nonessential bus trips, like field trips.
