A 39-year-old Sioux City man has been charged with murder following an incident Wednesday morning. Police says Leland Saul is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 53-year-old Joseph Blackbird of Sioux City. Police have not provided details of Blackbird’s death, although the initial evidence points to an assault. The investigation started when police were called to a vacant home on the west side of town on the report of an injured person. Officers followed a trail of blood leading to a home. Saul and four other transients were arrested for criminal trespass. A few hours later police were called to Blackbird’s house on the report that he was injured. Blackbird died early Thursday evening. During the subsequent investigation, Saul was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
