Muscatine scores upset in 4A semifinals

The Girls’ State Basketball Tournament resumed this afternoon with an upset in the class 4A semifinals. Muscatine scored the first six points of overtime as the Muskies moved into the championship game with a 41-37 victory over top-ranked West Des Moines Dowling. The game was close during the opening half before Dowling scored the last seven points of the second quarter to take a 22-16 lead into the break. however, the Maroons made just five of 21 shots after the intermission. Muscatine coach Jeff Tank says the tempo slowed in the second half and that benefited his team.Dowling coach John Wilkinson says by getting the first basket in overtime Muscatine regained the momentum. He says they had to come out and work hard after getting behind.
