Governor Tom Vilsack says there may be additional security at state buildings once the U.S. begins war against Iraq, but he says state officials’ main job will be business as usual. Vilsack says “our job at the state level is to do as much as we can to maintain a sense of normalcy so that we can focus on what our job is.” Vilsack says the men and women of the military are focused on their job, and he says state officials should focus on their job, which is to do what they can to stimulate the economy.Vilsack says local government operations have changed more than state operations as a result of the ramp-up to war. Vilsack says many “first-responders” like police and fire fighters have been called to active duty in the National Guard.
