Teen hospitalized after shooting himself at High School

March 18, 2003 By admin

A student from Clayton Ridge High School in Guttenburg remains hospitalized after shooting himself in front of the school’s principal. Officials say 17-year-old Richard Hubbard the Third walked into the principal’s office, thanked the principal for listening to his problems, then pulled out a .22 caliber rifle hidden under his coat and shot himself in the stomach. The principal initiated an alert to lock down the school. Hubbard, a senior from Guttenberg, was taken to the Guttenberg hospital, and then airlifted to Iowa City. He’s listed in stable condition at University Hospitals.
