The Sioux City school board voted last night to make three-million dollars in cuts for the 2003-2004 school year. Forty-three teachers will be cut, 14 administrative personnel will lose their jobs as well as three staff members from the schools’ Operations & Facilities Department. The budget plan is based on a two-percent increase in property taxes. In addition to the staff cuts, the board also voted to close Grant Elementary School and one high school swimming pool. The chances take effect with the start of the school year next fall. Board President Ann James said the vote was one of the toughest the board’s had to face.
